The Role:

The team at Sunbit is looking for a self-motivated and ambitious Payroll Administrator to join our Accounting team. Your primary duties will be to work with our third-party payroll service and our Human Resources team to process payroll and benefits accurately and timely. Other responsibilities for this role include general accounting duties. This is a great opportunity for someone who is eager to grow in the Payroll and Accounting function and build something special. This role will ideally be based in the greater Los Angeles area, and will be able to work from the HQ office in a Hybrid capacity (2-3 days/week).


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Administer payroll processing in collaboration with a payroll specialist from a third-party payroll service: bi-weekly payrolls, off-cycle payrolls for new hires and terminations, and quarterly incentive payments
  • Track and send adjustments to the third-party payroll service
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, audit payroll information for accuracy
  • Final review of bi-weekly time and attendance records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established policies prior to payroll processing
  • Review processing of employee status changes to ensure they are accurately reflected in the payroll system
  • Enter and maintain employee garnishments in a timely and accurate manner
  • Assist with open enrollment and verify changes to payroll deductions for benefits are accurate
  • Set up and maintain tax accounts for states and localities
  • Manage tax inquiries and follow up with the payroll service provider
  • Troubleshoot any issues employees and supervisors may encounter
  • Coordinate frequently with human resources and other relevant departments to ensure adequate communication and adherence to payroll practices
  • Facilitate the monthly close process by generating payroll interface journal entries
  • Reconcile payroll tax deposits, tax withholdings, garnishments, and other payroll deductions
  • Facilitate payroll-related audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
  • Stay abreast of federal and state payroll laws and changes
  • Assist with other general accounting duties
  • Perform other related duties or ad hoc projects within the scope of responsibilities

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Associate’s degree in business, bachelor’s degree a plus
  • Minimum 4 years of prior multi-state payroll processing experience, with at least 1 year of experience supervising work of others
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes
  • Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now, a plus
  • Prior accounting experience a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word 
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to sensitively handle confidential company and employee information
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work efficiently to complete projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with internal and external customers

How We Pay:

  • We believe in paying fairly and equitably based on a number of factors including but not limited to previous experience, relevant work history, interview performance, geographical location, internal equity, and expected level of ownership 
  • We are targeting a base salary of $70,000-85,000 for this role
  • This role will also be granted company equity via stock options
